The Helpers of God’s Precious Infants was founded in 1989 by Monsignor Philip Reilly in New York, USA. Since 1967 Msgr. Reilly has been actively involved in almost every aspect of the Pro-Life Movement.
He founded Helpers of God’s Precious Infants to focus on prayer efforts and sidewalk counselling outside of abortion clinics. For over twenty years, five days a week, he has counselled and prayed on the streets outside abortion clinics.
He continues to serve as executive director of the Helpers and travels internationally to train others how to hold peaceful, loving prayer vigils and to offer constructive assistance to those in crisis both before and after abortion.
Msgr. Reilly was brought to Australia in 1996 by Human Life International (now Family Life International). By 1997 we had adopted the Helpers’ name and methods. Helpers are now established in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Rockhampton and Albury.
Paul has been married 32 years and has been Executive Director of Family Life International for nearly 7 years. Paul has also been the Sydney coordinator of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants for 20+ years. Paul has travelled around Australia helping other groups establishing Helpers’ prayer groups outside abortion clinics. This usually entails meetings with Police and Local Council officials, often with a lawyer and running seminars and Q and A sessions.
Paul is a veteran Australian pro-lifer. He has tirelessly taken the message of the dignity of life to the streets of Sydney for over 20 years, especially through his peaceful vigils outside abortion mills with the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants , pouring all of his energies into the cause for life, which is becoming more urgent than ever in Australia.
Here in Australia, Gail Instance, one of our most dedicated pro-life activists began as daily witness outside abortion centers in Sydney in 1989.
In 1992, Gail Instance a founding member of Australian Catholic Pro-Life Association (ACPLA), and Bede McDougall, met with the “Apostle of Life”, Father Paul Marx OSB, whose work was said by Blessed Pope John Paul II, to be “the most important work on earth”. With his help and guidance, the local group became a branch of Human Life International (HLI) which was based in the United States of America.
Gail Instance was executive director of Human Life International in Australia, and brought Msgr. Reilly to Australia in 1996 by Human Life International (now Family Life International).
